Redacted

Sep 26—Oct 1, 2026
    Part of
  • The American Cinema Under George W. Bush
  • and
  • BAM Film 2026
Directed by Brian De Palma (2007)
With Izzy Diaz, Rob Devaney, Ty Jones, Anas Wellman
Written and directed by Brian De Palma (Carrie, Scarface), Redacted is a fictionalized account of a real incident in which US soldiers sexually assaulted and killed a teenage girl in Iraq. Partly inspired by reports about the 2006 incident on the Internet, De Palma fashions a faux documentary, interviewing soldiers and Iraqi locals and inventing blogs, video diaries, and online testimonials to relate the brutal story in an unvarnished, immediate manner. One of the director’s most divisive projects, Redacted addresses how atrocities are reported in the age of Abu Ghraib.
