Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World

May 13—20, 2026
    Part of
  • Pynchonesque
  • and
  • BAM Film 2026
Directed by Peter Weir (2003)
With Russell Crowe, Paul Bettany
In this saga set during the Napoleonic Wars, adapted loosely from Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey–Maturin series, a captain of the British Royal Navy (Crowe) pursues his enemy across the seas—posing questions about the interplay between duty and loyalty along the way. The Pynchon connection? The novelist names a storyteller—“the best Yarn-Spinner in all the Fleets”—after O’Brian in Mason & Dixon, his own sprawling historical adventure tale.
