The Rites of May (aka Itim)

A nation’s trauma wrapped in a chilling allegory, The Rites of May (or Itim) is a 1970s folk horror spell from Filipino filmmaking powerhouse Mike De Leon (Kisapmata). A man returns to his countryside home and falls for a woman seemingly possessed by the spirit of her missing sister, who now demands he solve the mystery behind her disappearance and uncover the truth. Haunting imagery and shockingly transgressive themes set the perfect backdrop for a country grappling with the wounded spirit of its history in this fiery, mournful masterpiece.
