Celebrate traditional Senegalese movement styles and indigenous songs with this dynamic workshop that gets students moving and singing, led by experts in African dance.
In this program, students:
- ・Watch a dance performance excerpt by Senegalese dance troupe WAATO SiiTA, recorded in high-definition from BAM’s DanceAfrica 2017 festival.
- ・Learn a version of the same dance under the guidance of BAM teaching artists, who provide live drumming accompaniment, in a workshop streamed live in the classroom
- ・Learn a Senegalese drumming call and response, practice common Wolof words and phrases, and engage with Senegal’s culture and history through other dynamic activities included in an online pre- and post-show study guide.
This virtual workshop runs 55 minutes, including performance excerpts. Fee: $250.
