  • BAM Film 2026
Directed by Quentin Tarantino (2012)
With Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, Walton Goggins
Two years before the Civil War, Django (Jamie Foxx), enslaved on a chain gang, finds himself accompanying an unorthodox German bounty hunter named Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz) on a mission to capture the vicious Brittle brothers. After they succeed, Schultz frees Django, and they team up to hunt down the South's most-wanted criminals. Inevitably, they come up against Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), a crooked plantation owner whose enslaved property include Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), Django's long-lost wife. “Wildly extravagant, ferociously violent, ludicrously lurid and outrageously entertaining,” the Wall Street Journal proclaimed of this Quentin Tarantino feature, “yet also, remarkably, very much about the pernicious lunacy of racism and, yes, slavery’s singular horrors.”

Series curator Steven W. Thrasher introduces the screening.
