After Hours

  • BAM Film 2026
Directed by Martin Scorsese (1985)
With Griffin Dunne, Rosanna Arquette, Catherine O’Hara, Teri Garr
When office worker Paul Hackett (Dunne) embarks on a seemingly innocuous journey downtown to meet up with a mysterious woman (Arquette) he met at a coffee shop hours earlier, her surreal behavior is just the first of many surprises. As the night unravels, this portrait of 1980s SoHo follows Hackett into Berlin-themed nightclubs, the apartment of a distressed waitress (Teri Garr), and the ice cream truck of a do-gooder driver (Catherine O’Hara). This early-career Scorsese masterpiece—anchored by Michael Ballhaus’ frantic cinematography—toes the line between haunting and absurd as increasingly higher stakes prevent Hackett’s simple journey: to get home.
