The Andromeda Strain
- 9PM
Director Robert Wise (West Side Story, The Sound of Music) adroitly adapts Michael Crichton’s sci-fi thriller in this 1971 cult favorite. Applauded by the scientific community as an accurate depiction of scientific inquiry, the film opens in a small Southwest town where a government satellite has recently crashed. When a team of doctors in hazmat suits is sent in, they find that everyone’s blood has turned to powder, killing them instantly. As the doctors descend into their underground facility with the remnants of the alien-infected satellite and the two lone survivors—a crying baby and a 69-year-old alcoholic—they must figure out how to save the rest of humanity.

An extremely satisfying zombie-horror film from Yeon Sang-ho about a group of somewhat noble, somewhat terrible survivors trying to stay alive aboard a train journeying across South Korea.

Featuring never-before-seen footage from Wuhan hospitals at the epicenter of the Covid-19 outbreak, this Emmy Award-winning doc acts as a living, breathing time capsule of what happened in those early days.

From “The Pope of Pop Cinema” comes a sadistic tale—based upon an 1842 short story by Edgar Allan Poe—that features Vincent Price as a gleeful prince in the midst of a plague outbreak.
