Warm Water Under a Red Bridge
Brimming with magical realism, sensuality, and humor, the final film by revered Japanese filmmaker Shohei Imamura—two-time winner of the Palme d’Or—is a rarely screened gem, newly restored. Screen legend Koji Yakusho (Shall We Dance?, Cure) stars as Yosuke Sasano, an unemployed salaryman who arrives in a remote fishing village seeking hidden treasure. Instead, he embarks on a passionate affair with Saeko Aizawa (Shimizu), a charming woman with a unique problem: there is a well of warm water inside her that longs for release.
“Nonchalantly freaky and uncommonly pleasurable” (The Village Voice), Imamura’s mythical tale paints a picture of longing, fantasy, and the search for happiness in the most unexpected of places.

The first US retrospective of one of the most original cinematic voices in France today showcases Axelle Ropert’s singular use of bracing and unusual images across her tender, funny, and elegant films.

A reckless and charming French woman visits her birth country of South Korea for the first time in Davy Chou’s “slow-boiling knockout” (The New York Times) about identity and international adoption.

When unapologetic and free-spirited Inez kidnaps 6-year-old Terry from foster care, they hold onto their secret and each other, navigating and surviving New York City and trying to grow into a better future.
